Pioneering discoveries about the brain and immune defense

It’s true that the brain governs the body, but the body also governs the brain, for example when the immune defense system makes us rest when we’re sick. This is shown in research that the world’s leading researchers and Nobel laureates will be presenting at an international conference in the research field of psychoneuroimmunology in Stockholm in June. This is research that, among other things, has led to new knowledge about the development of depression, severe stress accelerating aging, and how anti-depressive drugs largely function as placebos.

Human Brain Project selected as European Flagship

Master students at Umeå Institute of Design win iF concept awards 2012

From more than 10.000 valid entries submitted by design students from all over the world, only 100 projects received an iF concept award 2012. Two of these were awarded to Masters students at Umeå Institute of Design: Simon Fredriksson and Gosha Galitsky, Dogan Sekercioglu, all students at the Master’s programme in Advanced Product Design, and Carol Tang from UID’s Interaction Design programme.

World-leading scientist employed at Karolinska Institutet

In his new capacity as Professor in Molecular Biology and the Biology of Hypoxia at the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, Dr. Johnson will develop existing collaborations with top researchers at Karolinska Institutet.
