Under the theme “Experiencing Games: Games, Play, and Players”, Nordic Digra will bring together researchers in the Nordic countries that focus on the study of games and gaming, be it on-line, computerised, or in the physical world.

The first Nordic Digra conference will place particular focus on studying design for player experience, and research on tools and methods for player-participatory design.

– As a result of the growing interest among the general public for games, game research has become a self evident and cross-disciplinary part of academic research says Harko Verhagen, game researcher at DSV, Stockholm University, and local chair of Nordic Digra 2010.

– Research on games and gaming has grown into a research area of its own, which will be reflected by the conference, Harko concludes.

Keynote speakers include professor Jesper Juul, author of amongst others ”Half-Real: Video Games between Real Rules and Fictional Worlds” and “A Casual Revolution: Reinventing Video Games and Their Players” and Christopher Sandberg, CEO and founder of The Company P, who have won an Emmy for their cross-media production ”Sanningen om Marika” (The truth about Marika), which was both a TV-series and reality game, inviting viewers to be part of the detective work involved in finding “the truth”.
